IQ Option vs Quotex: comparison 2026

Overview of each platform

Both aim at the same audience: fixed-time trades from a phone, small accounts and quick registration. The difference that matters is not in the interface design, but in which entity answers to you and with which product.

IQ Option, what can be checked

IQ Option has been running since 2013 and the company states more than 100 million registered users, a figure worth reading as what it is: accounts opened over twelve years, not active traders. Its catalogue runs to around 550 assets across CFDs on currencies, shares, cryptocurrencies, ETFs, commodities and indices, and outside the European Economic Area it also keeps the fixed-time digital options. The platform exists as a web version, a program for Windows and macOS, and apps for Android and iOS.

For a Colombian reader the central fact is none of those: it is that the contract is signed with SKY LADDER LLC, an entity registered in Antigua and Barbuda under number ILLC 004. That is published on the operator's own regulation page and we develop it in the guide on the legal status of IQ Option in Colombia.

Quotex, what is worth looking at first

Quotex is the brand most often put forward as an alternative in Spanish-language forums and videos. We have not verified any of its operational details and that is why you will not find its minimum deposit, its payout percentage or its licence here. Publishing those figures without checking them would be exactly the mistake this comparison is trying to avoid.

What we can give you is the verification route. Any serious operator publishes, on its own domain, four things: the legal name of the company providing the service, its registration number and jurisdiction, the regulator supervising it (if there is one) and the withdrawal terms. If any of the four does not appear on the official site — not in a video, not on an affiliate blog — that is already useful information in itself.

Two product models that are not identical

This is where the most common confusion lies. A platform centred on fixed-time options and a platform combining CFDs with fixed-time options are not the same business, however alike the screens look. CFDs have leverage, a spread and positions that stay open; digital options have an expiry, a predefined payout and no possibility of closing halfway through on the same terms. Before comparing prices it is worth knowing which of the two products you want to use, a topic we expand on in the article about what IQ Option offers in binary options today.

A comparison in which both columns are equally full of figures usually means nobody checked half of those figures.

Security and regulation

This is the section where the two platforms really do part ways, and also where the most misinformation circulates. What matters is not which licence exists somewhere in the world, but which one covers your account.

Who supervises each side

IQ Option has two entities and that distinction decides everything. IQBroker Europe Ltd, formerly IQOption Europe Ltd, is authorised by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under licence 247/14, and its scope is limited to European Economic Area residents. A Colombian client does not contract with that company, but with the Antigua and Barbuda entity. Any review presenting the Cypriot licence to you as protection for Colombia is mixing up two different things.

The official regulation page claims no Colombian authorisation either, and no registration with the Superintendencia Financiera appears. That does not make the operator illegal or fraudulent: it describes the arrangement precisely, and the arrangement is the usual one among international platforms serving Colombia from an offshore entity. The practical consequence is worth being clear about and we explain it in full in our analysis of how trustworthy IQ Option is.

About Quotex we assert nothing on this ground. The question you should put to its official site is identical: which company provides the service, in which jurisdiction is it registered and which authority supervises it? If you find a licence number, verify it in the public register of the regulator cited, not on the operator's own website.

What happens to your money

IQ Option states that it keeps client funds in segregated bank accounts, separate from the company's operating capital, and says it works in line with the PCI DSS standard, with the transition to version 4.x completed. These are statements by the operator, not certifications we have audited, and that is how they should be read.

There is one point no comparison should leave out: the investor compensation fund attached to the Cypriot licence covers EEA clients. It does not extend to a Colombian account contracted with the Antigua and Barbuda entity. It is a real limitation and it is worth knowing before depositing, not afterwards.

  • Ask about fund segregation on both platforms, with the answer written on their official site.
  • Always distinguish between "it has a licence" and "that licence covers my country of residence".
  • Treat security seals and logos as marketing until you can verify them at the issuing source.

Identity verification

IQ Option requires KYC verification and its registration form sets 18 as the minimum age. In practice this means an identity document and proof of address before the first withdrawal goes out. A lot of people experience it as an obstacle, when in fact it is the opposite: a platform that asks you for documents is a platform that is applying controls. The absence of KYC is never an advantage.

Apply the same criterion when comparing. If one of the two lets you deposit and withdraw without verifying anything, that does not make it more convenient; it makes it more opaque.

Always verify a licence number in the regulator's public register, not on the page of the operator displaying it.

Costs and entry

IQ Option's barrier to entry is published: from 10 USD to deposit. The rest of the costs, on both platforms, are discovered in the cashier and on the chart, not in an advertising table.

How much you need to start

IQ Option's own website describes a minimum threshold from 10 USD to start trading, and its official social account has mentioned trades from around 1 USD, a figure we take with a pinch of salt because it does not appear on a stable page of the site. The figure can vary depending on the payment method and the country, so confirm it in the cashier once the account is open. We set the matter out in the guide to the IQ Option minimum deposit.

Ten dollars is a low barrier and that has a double reading. It lets you start with money you can lose without consequences, which is exactly how anyone should start. It also makes it easy to deposit without thinking too hard, which is how a lot of people start and later regret it.

Where the real cost hides

On a platform of this type you rarely see a fee with a name of its own. The cost lives in the CFD spread, in the overnight financing of positions you leave open and, in fixed-time options, in the difference between the payout offered and 100% of the capital risked. That difference is the house's structural edge and it exists with any operator offering the product.

That is why we are not going to give you a payout percentage for Quotex, or IQ Option's for a specific asset: they change by instrument, by hour and by market conditions. What does help is the method of comparison, and you can apply it on both platforms in the same afternoon:

  1. Open both demos with the same currency pair and the same expiry.
  2. Note the payout offered at three different moments of the day.
  3. Repeat the reading during a macroeconomic news release and compare how far it contracts.
  4. Add up the effect over a hundred hypothetical trades before concluding anything.

That twenty-minute exercise is worth more than any ranking. You can open the IQ Option demo and compare with the platform on screen without depositing a peso and do half the work today. We break IQ Option's costs down separately in the article about fees and real costs.

Nequi, PSE and local methods

Here we have to be exact. We could not confirm at an official IQ Option source whether Nequi or PSE are enabled for Colombian accounts, because the payment methods page is generated on the client side and varies by country. What is evidenced is support for bank cards and for Bitcoin deposits, plus an explicit rule: you can deposit in cryptocurrency, but no withdrawal goes out in crypto. All withdrawals of profits are processed in fiat currency.

The only honest answer about local methods is that your account's cashier shows the options available for your country at the moment you log in. Check it there, on both platforms, before depositing. We gather what can be stated in the guide about payments with Nequi and PSE.

The payouts you see in an advert are measured in ideal conditions; the ones you will see are measured at three in the afternoon on a day with news.

Apps and features

In Colombia almost all of this trading happens on the phone, so the app is not an accessory: it is the platform. IQ Option publishes native versions for the four main platforms and specific technical requirements.

What is available on each device

IQ Option keeps an app on Google Play for Android 7.0 or higher, with an approximate size of 74 MB, and on the App Store for iOS 15 or higher, close to 163 MB. For computers it offers a downloadable client for Windows 7 onwards, around 130 MB, and for macOS 12.0 onwards, some 163 MB. The web version works without installing anything.

One detail worth underlining: the official download menu points to Google Play, and we did not confirm that the operator hosts a separate APK file. If someone offers you an APK on a third-party site, that is a route we do not recommend for any reason. We deal with it in more detail in the review of the IQ Option mobile app.

For the Quotex app we have no verified technical requirements. The useful comparison, once again, is the one you make: install both, trade for a week on the demo and watch how often the chart freezes, how long logging in takes and whether the app survives switching from mobile data to wifi with a position open.

Tools and risk-free practice

The IQ Option demo account arrives preloaded with 10,000 virtual USD and allows unlimited top-ups. It runs on the same platform as the funded account, with the same charts, indicators and order types, so what you learn there transfers intact. It is simulated money and cannot be withdrawn under any circumstances, something worth remembering when a winning run in practice starts to look like a business plan.

  • Set up the same set of indicators on both platforms before judging which one looks better.
  • Test how each chart behaves on a small screen, with a finger and without a magnifying glass.
  • Check whether the app keeps your templates and your favourite assets list between sessions.
  • Time how long it takes from opening the app to executing an order. That is where the real difference shows.

Our demo account guide explains how to get value out of that week of testing rather than using it to collect fictional victories.

Differences you feel when using them

Screenshots lie a little. Two interfaces can look equivalent and behave differently when the market moves fast, when the connection fails or when you need to close something urgently. The support experience also changes a great deal: IQ Option advertises 24/7 service and serves customers in several languages, Spanish included, although the exact number of languages is not confirmed on a stable page. Put both chats to the test with a specific question about withdrawals and compare the answer.

A week on the demo of both apps will tell you more about which one suits you than twenty written comparisons, this one included.

The verdict

There is no universal winner, and anyone promising you one is selling you something. There is a user profile for each platform and a set of checks that, done today, save you a problem in three months.

What each one puts on the table

IQ Option comes into this comparison with the advantage of documentary transparency. We know which company a Colombian contracts with, we know a European licence exists even though it does not cover this country, we know the entry minimum, the approximate size of the catalogue and the rules on crypto withdrawals. All of that is published on its own site and anyone can read it again. Twelve years of operation and a Trustpilot score of 4.3 that the company displays on its page complete the picture, with the obvious caveat that such scores move.

Quotex comes in with the advantage of being a real and well-known alternative in the Spanish-speaking market, and with the disadvantage, for the purposes of this article, that we did not verify its details. That is not a judgement on the platform: it is a description of our editorial reach. If you want to use it, use the same checking method we proposed for IQ Option and demand the same answers of it.

Where IQ Option wins on arguments, not adjectives

Its honest edge is not a payout percentage or a promise of returns: it is that almost everything a reader needs in order to decide is written on the operator's own site and can be cross-checked in five minutes. Added to a minimum of 10 USD, a generous demo and native clients for the four platforms, that makes a reasonable starting point for someone beginning in Colombia.

The limitations are just as clear and they do not change that conclusion: there is no Colombian licence, the Cypriot protection does not reach you and withdrawals never go out in cryptocurrency. Trade only with money you can lose entirely, because the operator itself warns that these services involve a high risk of total loss. If after reading this you want to try, the sensible thing is to open the IQ Option demo and compare with the platform on screen, leave the live account for later and, when the moment comes, create your IQ Option account with a small amount. The scenarios worth anticipating are in our risk guide.

If neither platform stands up to your own checks, the right answer is not to pick the less bad one: it is not to deposit yet.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, IQ Option or Quotex?

It depends on what you want to trade and what information you demand before depositing. On IQ Option we can publish details verified on its official site: the contracting entity, a minimum from 10 USD, close to 550 assets and a demo of 10,000 virtual USD. On Quotex we did not verify figures, so we do not invent them. Check on each official site the company, the jurisdiction and the withdrawal conditions, and decide with those four facts in hand.

Does IQ Option have a licence to operate in Colombia?

It claims no Colombian authorisation. Its regulation page mentions licence 247/14 from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, which covers European Economic Area residents only, and an entity in Antigua and Barbuda, SKY LADDER LLC, for all other jurisdictions. A Colombian client contracts with that second entity, and the European compensation fund does not extend to their account.

Can I deposit on IQ Option with Nequi or PSE?

We cannot confirm it at an official source, because the operator's payment methods page is generated according to the country and the state of the account. What is evidenced is support for bank cards and Bitcoin deposits. Your account's cashier shows the options enabled for Colombia at the moment you log in, and that is the only place worth checking it.

How much do I need to start on either of the two?

On IQ Option the operator indicates a threshold from 10 USD, which can vary depending on the payment method and the country; confirm it in the cashier before transferring. For Quotex you will have to read it on its own site. In both cases the advice is the same: start with the smallest amount that lets you practise without your budget noticing.

Can you withdraw in cryptocurrency from IQ Option?

No. The operator states explicitly that you can deposit in Bitcoin, but no withdrawal goes out in cryptocurrency: all withdrawals of profits are processed in fiat currency. Processing time depends on the method chosen and on having KYC verification complete, and the operator does not publish a fixed timeframe, so check the window the cashier shows for your method.
